I'm finally here!
Hello everyone!
I have finally made it to Japan. I have a slew of things that happened and so much I want to talk to everyone about, but if I put all of it down on this one post, it would not only take me all day to write it, but all week for you to read it.
So the flight to Japan was honestly the longest thing I have ever had to endure. Sitting in the middle seat of a car is rough, but the middle seat of a 13 hour flight was horrible. It seemed like I watched every movie known to man. I think the worst part, was during the last 5 minutes of my flight, I reached under my seat to look for my bag and I found a little handle. I pulled it and it let my seat lean back. I sat awkwardly straight and in the middle seat... It was horrible.
After I got on the bus from the airport, I rode for another 3 hours. I LOVED looking at Japan. The city of Tokyo is absolutely massive. I could not believe that I drove for almost a hour and there was nothing but big city as far as the eye could see on both sides of my bus. I loved it.
Later, I saw a mountain range in the distance, I thought about how I live in the mountains, and how it would be cool if I lived by THAT mountain. Well, the bus took me there and I DO live by that mountain!!!
I arrived to Midori and I met with my boss. He took me right to the school. I met the students and they are really awesome. I like how this is a private school, and it seems that all the kids here want to learn English. I think because they don't get to use it ever, they seem excited to talk with me. I was told to pretend that I don't speak any Japanese, so that was fun to try and act like I didn't know what they were talking about. I heard the first row of students talk about "do you think he has a girlfriend?", "I don't see a ring on his finger", "His head almost touches the top of the door frame". It was a fun experience already!
When I arrived to my house finally, I walked around. It is HUGE! I have 2 rooms upstairs, 4 rooms downstairs, and a small yard with a storage area. I didn't even know about one of the rooms I had! This house is very traditional. I have all the paper walls and doors on some rooms, and I have a bath area and stuff. I have propane that I need to turn on outside when I want to use hot water, and I can't tell you how many times I have already forgotten to turn it off.
There are 2 downsides to this house. 1 is how all the doorways are really low compared to American houses. I honestly have to bend down to walk through a door. I have already hit my head on doorways countless times. As a matter of fact, the very first thing I did this morning after I got out of bed was hit my head on the door frame. I was so angry!
There was a lonely part. Last night after I get off the flight, I could not get my internet working for a night. Than meant, I spent the night without talking to anyone. It wasn't such a big problem, but I was completely alone. I didn't have any friends I could see, any family I could talk to. I didn't have internet so I just watched a movie on my computer.
Tomorrow I will post Pictures of my trip so far, and I will work on a walk through of my house. I don't want to show it off too much until it is done.
Enjoy and check back really soon.
